A sick paedophile has been jailed after police found more than 12,000 indecent images of children on his computer. Stephen Greenwood-Hyde, 45, broke down in tears as police arrived at his home in Derby to seize his computer. Officers raided Greenwood-Hyde's home in the south of the city after a tip-off that he had been viewing child pornography, Derbyshire Live reported . Derby Crown Court heard a search of his computer found more than 12,000 indecent images of children, dating back five years. Some of the sickening images showed children aged between four and five. Greenwood-Hyde has now been jailed for a year. Prosecuting, Amy Earnshaw said: "Police received information that the IP address registered to the defendant's home was being used to access indecent images of children. "Officers attended the defendant's address in January. When they told him the reason why he started crying and said, 'Oh God, it was me'. "When he was arrested he had suicidal thoughts and police were quite concerned for him. "He told them he had owned indecent images of children for about a decade." The court heard Greenwood-Hyde had two films and 732 images of the most serious category A. He also had nine films and 1,632 images in category B, and five movies and 11,124 images falling into category C. The court heard Greenwood-Hyde hadn't been in trouble with the law before. Chris Brewin, mitigating, said his client felt terrible about what he had done. He added that Greenwood-Hyde had taken steps to tackle his "terrible addiction". Brewin said: "When he was interviewed, he fully cooperated with police. "As you know he also entered guilty pleas at the first available opportunity." He added: "You can see from the report that in the early stages of his life he had difficulties with his mental health." As well as a 12-month prison sentence, Greenwood-Hyde was placed on the sex offenders register and on a sexual harm prevention order for ten years. Sentencing, Judge Mooncey said: "It is horrific to know that you got pleasure out of watching something like this. "This is a case where there are aggressive features. You have to realise that there are real children subjected to this, and in this case, it passes the custody threshold."
